This exercise will help you create a plan to develop the skills you still need for the job you want.
There are many different ways to get these skills:

Take a class or finish a degree
Become a member in a professional organization
Take on a new specialty in your current job
For Evaluation Only
Volunteer with an organization to learn new skills
Do something with a hobby
Start coaching a youth sports team to build your leadership skills
Start doing on-the-job training
Go to a free seminar on a new software program.
You know the skills that are needed to do the job. Use this exercise to set your goals and create a
plan for getting the skills or experience you need.
Instructions:
1. Look at the job requirements in Exercise 6. List the technical skills you want or need to develop
in the Skill column on the first page. List the soft skills you need on the second page.
2. Once you have completed the lists, identify how you can develop each skill and enter that in the
How I Will Get the Skill column. Be as specific as possible.
3. Next, go back through the lists and fill in the When column, showing when you plan to get each
skill. List the amount of time it will take you to develop the skill from today (for example: two
months from today).
4. List how you will prove you have this skill in The Proof column.
5. Look at the list of technical skills and soft skills and fill in the Get It Done page. Put things in the
order you need to get started on the skills, with first things listed first.
