PARENTING SERIES: P9 – KEEPING KIDS
HEALTHY
The Big Picture
This pamphlet focuses on ways to keep kids healthy through good nutrition, an active lifestyle,
and adequate medical care.
The pamphlet reviews basic guidelines for healthy eating and the importance of staying active. It
also overviews how to tell when someone is sick, and the importance of wellness checkups for
kids, as well as adequate sleep. The basic contents of a home first-aid kit are listed. An exercise
helps parents plan what action they will take when their child is sick, and learn how to read
nutrition labels with their kids.

The IM helps parents understand the benefits of eating healthy and the potential problems kids
can encounter when they don’t eat well. We go more in depth to the basics of nutrition, and
look at common medical issues and nutritional needs of kids at different ages. Parents will
identify the things they can control and not control about their child’s health, and identify
places to go for medical care. Supporting your child’s health at a distance, and the benefits of
forgiveness in releasing anger are explored.
