There is always more than one way to solve a problem besides hurting the
other person.

Hurt comes in many forms – Physical, Verbal, Emotional

Review the slide for examples of abusive behavior on the left and the impact
of kids on the right.

A few statistics:
 the most common type of abuse is neglect.
 Kids of parents with alcohol or drug abuse issues are 3 times more likely to
be abused than kids of non-users.
 Alcohol and drugs interfere with a parent’s mental functioning –
judgments, inhibition, ability to protect their kids. Money is spent on drugs
instead of basic needs of the household.
