Refer to the slide - What works for one child may not work for another.
Interacting with your child can be challenging when your personality style is
at odds with your child’s.
Example: You may be calm and looking to rest after dinner. Your child may
be energetic and ready to interact with you. How do you react? Discuss
possible options:
• Yelling at them to be quiet and leave you alone – NOT!
• Sending them off to play outside with friends – Depends on
neighborhood, situation, etc.
• Stopping and taking time to play with your child before resting.
• Relax by watching TV with them.
• Get your child involved in a project or activity they can do by
themselves or with a sibling.
• Give them some attention, and then redirect them to a quieter activity.
• Have your spouse or partner spend time with your child while you
relax.
