Stage Description
Events and Situations Something happens that causes you to get angry – you get a flat
tire on the way home from work
Negative Thoughts You think about what’s happened and think a negative thought
like “Here’s one more thing that’s gone wrong today…” or “This
is so unfair…”
Emotional Response You feel upset, you feel wronged, your spouse was supposed to
fix that tire last week…
Bodily Symptoms Increased adrenaline rush, headache, racing heartbeat
Behavior You call your spouse and yell at him, you kick the tire, you are
rude to a person who stops to ask if you need help…
IT BEGINS AGAIN… Now, because of your flat tire…
Events and Situations You are 2 hours late getting home, you were late to pick up
your daughter from daycare, now you have an extra fee to pay…
Negative Thoughts You’ll never get supper ready now…
Emotional Response Feel exhausted with the drama, feel upset that everything is late
Bodily Symptoms You feel physically drained, move slow
Behavior Yell at kids when they say they are hungry…
