For Evaluation Only
Walk through the cycle of anger with the example on the slide.
Joe, who is 5, left his mini cars all over the floor, and you’ve just
stepped on one with your bare feet.
Have the class indicate how they would feel, and react at each stage.
Then go through and identify ways you could break the cycle of anger –
Stage Description
Events and Situations • Try to motivate Joe to put his toys away so you don’t have
the event.
• Have Joe play with his cars in his room so they aren’t in the
space
Negative Thoughts • Take a deep breath, try to think about good things that have
happened during the day,
Emotional Response • Try to stay calm, take a break and leave the room before
encountering Joe
Bodily Symptoms • Take a deep breath, sit down and rub your foot
Behavior • Sit down and rest for 10 minutes, call a friend and talk for a
few minutes
