Connect these to the basic rules on the previous page.
Trust – (Play fair – be honest, follow the rules, be honorable.)
Empathy – Show concern for others and how they feel –(Take turns – it’s
not all about you. Share – give to others and you’ll get some back.)
Respect (Say it nicely – use good manners. Instead of saying “I hate the
way you leave stuff all over the floor,” you could say “I keep tripping over
the things you leave on the floor. Could you put things away before you sit
down?” Apologize – when you’ve made a mistake, tell someone you’re
sorry and mean it.)
Being there and being real – (Listen to others – good communication
involves active listening. You really listen to what the other person is
saying. Don’t try to get your point across while the other person is
speaking, and listen instead of planning what you want to say.)
Good Communication – (Use your words – talk about things – don’t just
react physically, but tell someone why you’re angry with them, ask
questions, and don’t make assumptions about what other people think or
feel.
Offer to help and show gratitude – (Do a favor for someone else- giving
your time and energy to someone else can make both of you feel good.)
