• Be a strong couple first
• Stick together
• Take your time – you’ll have better results if you wait two or more years
to marry after a divorce, too many changes at once can be a hard
adjustment
• It may take time to get close to the other person’s children
• Do everyday things together as a family (dinner, going to the park,
going to a movie or shopping)
• Plan how you’ll parent together before you remarry
• Don’t let anyone put you into a situation where you have to choose
between your partner and your kids
• Make it a rule that everyone treats others with respect
• Don’t expect everyone to get along all the time. You have to build the
relationship into a family.
