Discussion:
• Attend functions when you can – it shows kids they are important to
you.
• Keep track of their school progress. Attend parent-teacher conferences.
Teachers will often send progress reports to both parents if requested.
• Work with your ex to coordinate schedules; if you share custody during
the week, make sure you coordinate so kids have all their homework
and supplies with them.
• Keep in touch with your kids – ask them about school, find out what
their favorite subjects are, what they struggle with.
• Be flexible as they get older, when kids need more time outside of
school to do homework or meet with team members to work on a
project.
• Make sure you have space in your place for them to do homework.
• Make sure you communicate with your ex if kids need to do homework
when they are with you. Don’t let the kids use you as an excuse not to
do their work.
