The Instructor’s Manual (IM)

This Instructor’s Manual (IM) serves as the core of the standardized instruction.
Supplemental activities may be added but may not replace the core of instruction. In the
event you have a weak reader, you may complete this pamphlet by focusing extra time on
the discussion questions and activities which overall correspond and reinforce the learning
objectives for each activity and pamphlet. Each pamphlet is designed to stand alone, but
activities completed in one pamphlet may be used to enhance another.

Features in the IM
Each IM provides these feature sections related to the pamphlet topic:
Age Matters – How to interact and what to expect from kids at
different ages

Parenting At A Distance – Special guidelines and tips for non-custodial parents
What About Me? – Ways parents can deal with their own anger and

discipline their kids in a positive way (includes an
exercise)
Try This At Home – The section of the pamphlet designed as a take-
home exercise with their children
My Personal Parenting Rules/ Parents create their own set of parenting rules to
For Evaluation Only
Action to Take – live by, and create a short term goal related to the
pamphlet topic.
I Control/ I Don’t Control – Place for parents to reflect on areas of their life
where they have control or don’t have control over
the circumstances related to the pamphlet topic.
Designed to help parents make better decisions.
This information is sometimes integrated into group
discussions.
Special tips just for Some IM topics features specific content geared to
Mom or Dad – men and women.

PowerPoint Slides
The CD included in the back of the IM contains a PowerPoint file with slides for each
pamphlet lesson. Additional teaching tips and content for each slide is found in the IM.

The Parenting Worksheet
A two-page worksheet will be given to each parent to supplement the IM material. The
worksheets for every pamphlet can be found at the back of the IM and on the
accompanying CD. It is used to:
 Complete IM exercises – Provides space for all additional IM exercises

 Record details on each child – a place to record information about their child(ren) in
relation to the pamphlet topic. Parents can record information for up to three children
on the worksheet.
